Quick Picks

The most easily recognizable initiative to come out of the first round of Lorain Proud charrettes is the Quick Picks. A “Quick Pick” is a flash mob-style event where citizens gather at a pre-determined location for one hour to clean and improve as much as possible. We’ve held several quick picks throughout 2017 and 2018. More will be scheduled beginning in the spring of 2019 and beyond. This is a great way to make a noticeable difference within the community and get to know your neighbors!

Lorain Better Block

LorainBetterBlock or #LBB for short is a celebration of the community. We want to temporarily demonstrate what the best block in the City of Lorain could look like. With the help and input of the community, we will be transforming one section of Lorain to a space that is friendly to all citizens, regardless of age, ability, or resources! LBB 2018 transformed Broadway and attracted over 750 visitors to downtown Lorain. LBB 2019 planning is in progress. It will take place on May 18th (Saturday). Get involved!

Charrettes

Lorain Proud was born of a series of charrettes (or community meetings), and we continued the charrettes throughout 2017. In our second series of charrettes we gathered feedback from more than 50 community members that helped us identify five areas of focus that are important to the citizens of Lorain: Active Transportation, Arts History & Culture, Downtown/Broadway Redevelopment, Lakefront/Waterway Development, and Youth Engagement & our efforts since have largely been directed towards positively impacting one or more of these focus areas.

Want to continue the charrettes initiative and need help hosting a #LorainProud meeting of your own? Let us know how we can help!
